May 31, 2019 //  by Nancy Isarin

On 3 May 2019, the Basel Convention Implementation and Compliance Committee and ENFORCE organised a side event entitled “Combating illegal traffic: successes, lessons learned and way forward” at the 14th Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention. The WasteForce Project objectives and activities (including research, new methodologies and tools and envisaged training activities) were presented by Vittoria Luda di Cortemiglia, UNU, on behalf of the WasteForce Project team. The side event was well attended and it showed that the topic of illegal traffic continues to be of great interest to Parties and experts in this field.

The fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (BC COP-14), the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention (RC COP-9) and the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention (SC COP-9) were held back to back from 29 April to 10 May 2019, in Geneva. The theme of the meetings was “Clean Planet, Healthy People: Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste”. For more information about the three COPs, go to the conference website.
